M5 Avatar Part 1

Image
I chose to do the Avatar option over photo retouching because most of the family photos are in Maine while I'm in New York and I have some of the really small photos from early 1900s but they're just way small to work with. Also, the Avatar sounds more fun. No sketch for this project since it's just manipulating a photo of myself to look something like one of the Na'vi from Avatar. The photo I will be using: I couldn't find one facing forward fully so I may try to take one before I begin working in photoshop. A lot of my selfies have my face covered partly by hair because I am very self-conscious of my weight and how fat my face looks. I am wearing a fleece jacket in this photo, which covers some skin, but I have tattoos on my both upper arms and those will be difficult to work with while trying to do as best of a job making my skin appear like that of the Na'vi. Also, in a lot of my photos I wear a lot of dark colors on my eyes and lips and this one had

Awareness Poster Part 2 - updated

With this updated version I have added a shadow for the man with the red shirt. I have also made the fonts on both areas of text less formal, but still different. For the upper font I also added inner shadow. For the lower font I matched the color to the man's red shirt, changed the layout of the words, and used bevel and emboss.

Book Cover Design Part 2 - updated

So, again, for this project I have re-designed Patricia Briggs's novel "Moon Called." The original will be found below. I did simplify my earlier sketch and feel that the final design is much better. Since the book is mainly about Mercy (who is a coyote shifter) I found an image of a coyote silhouette in front of a moon, which I changed the color of, and one of just a coyote. During this book, she finds herself between two alpha wolves so I found an image of two wolves; the left represents Samuel who leaves his father's pack to become a lone wolf while living with Mercy, the right represents Adam who is Mercy's next-door neighbor and is a bit aggressive towards Mercy in general and to Samuel who shows up in his territory. I carried the moon from the front cover to the back to break up the gray and black color scheme. I could only find one picture of the back of the book (which is $100 to buy in hardcover - I had considered buying the book to view the whole jack

Book Cover Design Part 1

For the book cover I will be reworking "Moon Called" by Patricia Briggs. This series is probably my favorite and I've read it three times now. This series is about a coyote shifter who was raised in Aspen Creek, MO by the alpha of alphas (Marrok) of the US but now lives in Washington State next door to the wolf alpha of that area. She is a mechanic who bought her business from a fae. As of the first book only the fae are "out." During this book she has a run in with a new werewolf who was forced into the change and ends up going to back to MO because her neighbor is injured. They return to WA with the Marrok's younger son who lives in Mercy's trailer but refuses to join the pack even though he lives next door. While she was gone the fae who sold her the business took over and gives her hell for working for vampires when she returns because she is now forced into a meeting with the Mistress of their seethe (group/pack). Because of this very busy stor

M3 Awareness Poster Part 2 - You Are Not Alone

I ended up staying on the more simplistic side. I did consider at one point doing a more animated version but felt that using images of real people would help the audience connect better. In the poster you have the suffer at the bottom left, closer to the audience so that they may be able to better connect if they too are dealing (or have in the past) with mental health issues. The upper right corner has a happy, friendly man with open body language before an open door with white light to represent help and future happiness. I kept the writing simple; the top left (since we read left to right) simply says "You are not alone" in the largest font. The bottom right, next to the sufferer, says "don't be afraid to ask for help." I had originally intended it to just say "you're not alone" but it felt unbalanced and came up short for the message I was trying to convey. I did attempt to change the color of the shirt from red to a blue but Photoshop
